Course description

What will you learn in Year 12?

In Year 12, you will focus on the first section of your NEA and Paper 1:Technical Principles. The NEA will involve designing against a choice of given contexts. You will follow the design process, in order to enable you to reach a final prototype. You will also focus on the technical principles of Product Design, which is the title of paper 1.

What will you learn in Year 13?

In Year 13, you will focus on the second part of the NEA. In Year 13 you are able to design and produce a prototype for a product of your choice. This perhaps can relate to a hobby or perhaps your chosen university or career path. You will also focus on the second exam paper, Designing and Making Principles.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s including English language and Mathematics at A*-C (or 4-9), B GCSE in Product Design or equivalent.

Product Design offers so many skills, form practical and finishing skills to design, time management, organisation and social, moral and ethically inclusive design. This course will give students the opportunity to study design in a range of career areas, such as Furniture, Architecture, Jewellery, Product and Project development/ management, stage set and film design, costume design and even fashion design. At this level, Product Design is extremely scientific and therefore is an excellent qualification to take forward the any form of engineering course.
