Performing Arts BTEC Level 3 at Our Lady's Catholic College

Course description

The Extended Cerficate is for learners who are interested in learning about the performing arts sector. This two year course is aimed at students with a passion for Acng, Singing or Dancing. It provides an opportunity to develop the necessary skill required for performing in the theatre. The programme focuses upon a broad range of musical theatre, acng and dance skills, delivered through workshop and studio teaching. Learning to work as a member of a company in rehearsal and performances in various shows is an important part of the programme.

Over the two years, you will have to build up a body of assessed praccal work together with background research, wri(en projects and evaluaons. You will also develop your skills by parcipang in acng, dancing, and singing praccal/theory classes. Students will be expected to parcipate in visits and workshops led by professional praconers, and to undertake private study and work independently. Some evening work may be required for final rehearsals and performances of major producon.

Entry requirements

Performing Arts Level 2 BTEC or GCSE in Dance, Drama or Music is preferable.

You should also have a keen interest in Dance, Drama and Music. Evidence of taking part in these in an extracurricular form would also be an advantage.

Assessment

Assessment is by coursework porXolio, performances and external assessments.

Future opportunities

BTEC Extended Cerficate is valued by employers and universies alike. The course is good preparaon for further study of acng or dancing and other related areas of the performing arts at drama school or university. This qualificaon is an asset for any aspect of work in the performing arts industry. In addion to the performing arts sector this qualificaon provides learners with the opportunity to develop all-round performance skills and transferable skills such as self-confidence, self-presentaon, personal discipline, me management and organisaonal skills which are highly regarded by higher educaon and employers.
