Classical Greek *FEES PAYABLE* at New Hall School

Course description

The course aims to develop the candidate’s ability to read sophisticated Classical Greek fluently, with understanding and critical appreciation. Candidates in this subject should already have studied Classical Greek to GCSE or equivalent.

If you have enjoyed the study of Classical Greek at GCSE, you will find that studying the subject at A Level will extend the range of skills you have already acquired. These include the comprehension and appreciation of set texts, as well as the setting of the literature in its wider social, cultural and historical context. Studying Classical Greek will allow you to read, appreciate and make a personal response to some of the world’s greatest literature in the original language. You will also extend your linguistic knowledge to enable you to attempt unprepared translation of passages set from the works of Greek authors.
