Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma ‘A2’ provides a qualification for the following type of student: Those who have an interest in and aptitude for the subject and wish to use the qualification to gain entry to university to study engineering. Those who wish to take up an apprenticeship within the engineering industry after Sixth Form study. Those who want to use this qualification to help them study other subject areas such as construction, architecture.

You will learn how to weld, machine products using centre lathes, produce and understand engineering drawing, quality control and inspection. All the work you do will be presented by yourself as written reports, diagrams, Power Point and practical work, so the ability to self manage and use ICT is essential. Mathematics, ICT, Science and Business are natural partners for this subject.

Entry requirements

Students must have a BTEC Level 2 in Engineering at a ‘Merit’’ grade or GCSE Resistant Materials at Grade ‘C’ together with four GCSEs at grades ‘A’ - ‘C’ including English and Maths.
