Textiles A Level at Lincoln Castle Academy

Course description

You will have a love for textiles. You would like a career that includes textiles, perhaps as a textile designer, seeing your unique designs woven into fabric, or maybe as an interior designer or clothes designer. Whatever your relationship with textiles, this exciting and challenging ‘AS/A2’ course will help you understand more about textiles. Textiles ‘AS/A2’ Level gives you the opportunity to develop your capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.

The subject will enable you to take a broad view of design and technology and to develop a wide range of skills, including how to assemble data and assess it, how to investigate facts and use deduction, thinking creatively and making quality products. Textile Design goes well with other subjects. If you want a career in design you might consider Art and Design, Business Studies and ICT courses.

Entry requirements

Ideally you should have a grade ‘C’ or above in Textiles GCSE. In addition to this students must have a grade ‘C’ in GCSE English as well as a good grade profile at Level 2.

Future opportunities

Textile design could take you into a number of exciting career paths. Of course being a textile designer is a natural outcome, but there are other job prospects, like working as an interior designer or in fashion merchandising and buying. The advertising and marketing profession always needs creative people too, as does the manufacturing industry.
