Performance Studies - AS / A level at Suffolk One

Course description

This course offers you a chance to study Dance, Drama and Music. The course examines the importance that each of these individual elements plays in performance and how they work together. The course will give you an opportunity to develop your acting skills, to deepen your understanding of Music, and explore different styles of each discipline.

Students should budget for the costs of attending live performances in order to gain maximum benefit from this course.

Course content

The aim of this course is to develop an appreciation of the Performing Arts in students who have experience in at least one area of Dance or Music. Much of the work focuses on contemporary styles. A combination of theoretical and practical work, the course involves group and individual performances and the recording of knowledge and understanding in written coursework and essays. Students will also study differing performance genres, recognising and appreciating their impact on contemporary theatre.

Entry requirements

Where Dance, Drama or Music has been studied then a grade B is expected or a Merit at BTEC Level 2 in Performing Arts. Grade C in GCSE English Language is also required. All prospective students will be expected to attend an audition.

Future opportunities

This course is an excellent foundation for study at degree level at university or specialist Drama school. It is also a valuable subject for combined honours at university or for progression straight into the profession.
