Sociology at The Sutton Academy

Course description

Have you ever wondered why people behave the way that they do? Why do people become criminals? Why do we make friends with certain people? Why do people join religious cults? If yes, then A Level Sociology is the course for you. It examines the society that we live in and the different groups of people within our society. Sociology will give you a deeper understanding of the social world that you live in. It will make you challenge everyday assumptions and stereotypes and you will begin to question the world around you.

This is an exciting and demanding course which will help you not only develop academically but also socially. The key topics that you will be examining are Families, Health, Beliefs, and Crime and Deviance, and you will also be given the opportunity to carry out your own piece of Sociological research.

Entry requirements

You do not need to have studied Sociology at GCSE but you will need 5 A*-C grades including at least a C in English Language.
