Product Design AS/A level at Hatch End High School

Course description

This course is for anyone who wants to develop an in-depth knowledge of Product Design. The subject is an inspiring, rigorous and practical course that encourages the use of creativity and imagination to solve real world problems.

Course content

At AS

Component 1: Examination Paper (2.5hrs 50%)

Component 2: Design and Make Task (40hrs 50%)

At A2

Component 1: Examination Paper (3hrs 50%)

Component 2: Design and Make Task (80hrs 50%)

How will I be taught?

The theory element is supported by a large element of practical application. The design and make tasks will require students to work independently on a context provided by Eduqas.

 

Entry requirements

6 GCSE grades A*-C/9-5 to include Maths & English Language. It is not essential to have studied Product Design at GCSE, but it would be beneficial.

Assessment

At AS 50% exam, 50% design and make task.

At A2 50% exam, 50% design and make task.

Future opportunities

University or full-time employment. It can lead to numerous professions within the design industry including product design; graphic design; architecture; engineering; exhibition design; jewellery design and interaction design.

What equipment will I need?

Standard stationery and writing materials, plus an A3 sketch book, A3 display folder, A4 hard back sketch pad and A4 ring binder with dividers
