Beauty Therapy (Body) - NVQ 3 at City of Oxford College

Course description

Expand your practical beauty skills, build your beauty career, and achieve an internationally recognised qualification on the NVQ 3 Beauty Therapy (Body) course. This one year full-time course will develop your professional skills and confidence to kick start or further your career in salons, spas and other beauty-related areas, or even start your own business.

National Vocational Qualification in Beauty Therapy Level 3 (Body) route and key skills. Our industry-standard salons are open to the public so you'll gain valuable professional work experience in beauty and customer service.


You will develop your salon management skills in our industry-standard facilities. Throughout the course you will be supported by expert beauty tutors to ensure successful completion of the course and realistic work experience.

Course content

The course covers the following areas: body massage, Indian head massage, stone therapy massage with pre-blended oils, aromatherapy, G5 and audio sonic, and anatomy and physiology. You'll also study professional employment development, health and safety, selling techniques and functional skills.

Entry requirements

Applicants for a Level 3 programme will normally have at least 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including some subjects related to the proposed area of study) and/or a completed Level 2 award, and the willingness to study for an additional Level 2 qualification in English and/or Maths. Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.

Assessment

Continuous assessments are undertaken during the year. They include oral and written exams, practical assessments and written assignments, case studies, and a portfolio of evidence and work. A minimum of 85% attendance is required by the Examining Board and the college for the successful completion of the qualification.

You'll learn through discussions, expert demonstrations by experienced beauty practitioners, and practical activities in our industry-standard facilities. Our salon facilities are open to the public and are run like a professional salon so you'll have the opportunity to practice your skills on customers and gain work experience in the industry. You'll also develop your hairdressing skills during a work placement at a salon in the local area.

Future opportunities

Career destinations include health and beauty salons, leisure centres in hotels or clubs, spas, health farms and cruise ships. NVQs in beauty therapy can also lead to specialist training e.g. TV make-up, theatre work, or working for a cosmetic company.

      • From Ring Road: use EITHER Banbury Road or Woodstock Road to city centre. At traffic lights, end of St. Giles (Map 1), turn right into Beaumont Street and follow signs to the rail station. At the second set of traffic lights, i.e. at the bottom of Park End Street, turn left into Oxpens Road (ice rink). The College is ¼ mile on the left.
      • From South (Newbury) A34: Turn off A34 to Southern bypass and make for Cowley. At next roundabout, turn left to city centre (park and ride on left). Follow Abingdon Road to end, form left towards ice rink and parks. The College is opposite the ice rink.
      • From A423 (Henley/Reading): Join ring road at (Sainsburys) and turn left to next roundabout and right to city centre and ice rink.
      • From East (London): M40/A40 At end of A40 turn left at roundabout signed Cowley. Continue on the ring road, (4 roundabouts) to Abingdon Road, city centre and ice rink.
      • From the train station: the campus is 10 minutes walk from the station.
