Course description

‘AS’ Photography – 1 Year Course
Units Studied
Unit 1 ‐ Externally set exam

Throughout the year students will produce images based on various themes through digital photography. Students will learn to take creative photographs, use Photoshop, research a variety of photographers and apply this knowledge to their own work. This work will prepare them for the final 10 hour examination.

Exam papers are released in January and students will be given a variety of starting points. There are a 6 to 8 weeks to prepare for the final piece which will be produced under examination conditions.

THIS IS A STAND ALONE QUALIFICATION AND WILL NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE FINAL ‘A’ LEVEL QUALIFICATION

‘A’ LEVEL Photography – 2 Year Course
Units Studied
Unit 1 – Personal investigation

This unit runs from September of year 12 and runs through until February of year 13. Students will submit one major project that has personal significance. The investigation includes a related personal study that must be between 1000 and 3000 words.
Unit 2 – Controlled assignment
This is a 15 hour exam. Students will be given a variety of starting points and will have 6 weeks to prepare for their final piece. They will produce the final piece under examination conditions.
Methods of Assessment
In Year 12 is 100% externally set exam. THIS IS A ONE YEAR COURSE AND CANNOT BE CONVERTED TO THE ‘A’ LEVEL COURSE.
In Year 13 unit 1 is 60% coursework and unit 2 is 40% exam. Both units are internally marked and externally moderated.

Entry requirements

Grade B or above in GCSE Fine Art and GCSE English Language.
