Information Technology Cambridge Technical Certificate at Queensbury Academy

Course description

Cambridge Technical are vocational qualifications designed with the workplace in mind and provide a high-quality alternative to A Levels. This course will provide the knowledge and skills required for employment and for the community as a whole. It’s also about developing the behaviours and attributes needed to progress and succeed in education and in work.

Course content

Year 12:
Unit 1 – Fundamentals of IT
Information learnt in this unit will provide a solid foundation in the fundamentals of hardware, networks, software, the ethical use of computers and how business uses IT.
Unit 2 – Global Information
The purpose of this unit is to demonstrate the uses of information in the public domain, globally, in the cloud and across the internet, by individuals and organisations.

Year 13:
3 optional units based on career pathways which are decided as part of the year 12 course.

No specific entry requirements.

Future opportunities

The qualification gives students the opportunity to progress to a degree in an information technology discipline or a degree where information technology related skills and knowledge may be advantageous. It also gives students the opportunity to develop employability skills such as cognitive and problem-solving skills, intrapersonal skills and interpersonal skills as well as leading onto some of the top apprenticeships within a range of IT related fields.
