Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship Level 3 at Bath College

Course description

The Advanced apprenticeship in Motor vehicle helps to develop your specialist knowledge in the skills already learnt in your level 2 qualification. The apprenticeship covers the diagnosis and rectification of components in the following systems; engine mechanical, cooling, management, HVAC, starting and charging systems, lighting, windows, wipers, mirrors, steering, suspension, ABS, SRS. Completion of this apprenticeship will provide the qualifications required for entry into the Associate Membership of the Institute of the Motor Industry (AMIMI).

Learn how to diagnose and rectify faults on the following systems on light vehicles;


Chassis – steering, suspension, brakes (covering electrical, hydraulic and mechanical components)

Engine – cooling, mechanical, electrical, lubrication, fuel and ignition, exhaust

Transmission – driveline, final drive, gearbox

Electrical – comfort and convenience, communication, lighting, information and entertainment, warning and instrumentation


Additionally learners will learn how to carry out a variety of inspections on light vehicles including; pre-mot inspection, pre-sales, pre-purchase and pre and post work inspections.
