Photography AS/A2 Level at Guildford College
This course will appeal to students who have a special interest in extending their creative skills into a photographic medium with a view to exploring traditional studio techniques alongside digital technology and those who are interested in studying photography in a practical and creative environment.
You should enjoy creative arts subjects and be able to grasp technical concepts.
You will be required to respond creatively to set themes and explore photographic techniques. This is reinforced by the critical and contextual work in visual language.
Practical projects enabling you to explore a range of photographic equipment and skills in black and white darkroom and digital processes.
5 GCSEs at grade C or above, plus an interview with a portfolio of 10-15 photographs or a combination of visual media.
You will need to have your own 35mm SLR film camera with manual controls for this course.
Practical coursework and practical exam.
Degrees or careers in photography, design or multi-media production.
A 35mm SLR camera and digital camera is a necessity and you will also need film, photographic paper, two sketchbooks, 4GB USB storage device, card reader, glue stick, lens cloth, pens and pencils.
Photography books are an essential resource for exploring photography and all students should have the Michael Langford book - Basic Photography (Focal Press, 1997), Graham Clark - The Photograph (Oxford History of Art) and Adobe Photoshop CS6 Classroom in a Book.
