Course description

At AS Level:

 Unit 1: Inorganic and Physical Chemistry

 Unit 2: Organic and Physical Chemistry Practical Skills in Chemistry 1

At A Level:

 Unit 1: Advanced Inorganic and Physical Chemistry

 Unit 2: Advanced Organic and Physical Chemistry

 Unit 3: Practical Skills

The course includes practical activities and teaches the process of scientific investigation which is an important part of learning. The course includes practical skills and a minimum of 30% of the examinations will access higher level mathematics

Entry requirements

Either GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Science- Grade B or above or Grade B or above in both GCSE Science and GCSE Additional Science

To continue to A Level – Grade D at AS Chemistry


Assessment at AS Level

Unit 1: Written Exam (1 hour and 30 minutes)

Unit 2: Written Exam (1 hour and 30 minutes)

Assessment at A Level

Unit 1: Written Exam (2 hours)

Unit 2: Written Exam (2 hours)

Unit 3: Written Exam (2 hours)

Future opportunities

Chemistry A Level provides good preparation for studying medicine, pharmacy, veterinary science or chemical engineering in further or higher education.
