Art and Design Mixed Media A Level at Harrow College

Course description

This Mixed Media course is a great companion to all other art subjects. It is a broad-based course exploring practical, critical and contextual work through a range of mixed media processes.

Course content

You will begin with introductory research activities which include visits to galleries and museums, where you will explore a variety of materials and techniques. You can choose to focus on two specialist areas of study to suit your individual interests and abilities. You will be studying in two specialist design studios : a mixed media and graphics/photography studio. In the second year, you will embark on a personal investigation that leads to a portfolio of design ideas.

You will be set projects during the course which are intended to help you to manage your time and assist you with developing a range of skills. You will need to complete sketch books and keep a journal as well as produce a range of finished pieces of work. You should show, among other evidence, how you have explored the use of resources and materials in your work, records of your ideas and thoughts, research into relevant artists, collections of materials you found visually exciting and stimulating and the development of your own ideas towards a personal outcome.
