Path to Catering Entry Level/Level 1 at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This course covers an introduction to working in the hospitality industry. You will have the opportunity to learn new practical food preparation and service skills and whilst at the same time develop your own confidence and improve your functional skills. On successful completion you could progress onto the next level course, a Traineeship or find employment within the hospitality industry.

Course content

You will study the following:

• Food preparation and cooking • Food service • Customer service • Food hygiene and food safety All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills including literacy, numeracy and IT. 

Entry requirements

You will need to have general education at entry level and a willingness to learn, work as part of a team and get involved with all elements of the course. 


This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including projects, and practical performance.

The course can lead to further courses at the next level, traineeship or employment. 

Further information

Most of the coursework will be completed in class.

On completion of this course you will receive an entry level or level 1 qualification in food preparation and cooking.
