Business A Level at Southmoor Academy

Course description

The OCR A Level in Business provides insight into, and experiance of, how businesses work, stimulating curiosity and encouraging students to engage with commerce in their everday. The course will capture and inspire interest in the way in which businesses operate in the modern world. Topics covered in the course include:

  • Business objectives and stratigic descions
  • External influences facing businesses
  • Marketing and marketing strategies
  • Operational strategy
  • Human resources
  • Accounting and financial considerations
  • The global environment of business

Entry requirements

Students are required to have the standard Sixth Form entry requirements (5 A* - C grades including 5 in English and Maths). Since this is an academic qualification, it is preferable for students to have Grades 6 or above in both Maths and English. You do not need to have Studied Business studies at GCSE.

Assessment

All units are externall assessed.

Unit 1 [33%] - Operating in a local business environment (2 hour written exam - partly multiple choice questions)

Unit 2 [33%] - The UK business environment (2 hour written exam)

Unit 3 [33%] - The Global business environment (2 hour written exam)

    • The Sixth Form at Southmoor is housed in a dedicated wing of Southmoor Academyl, completely refurbished and redesigned for our first intake in September 2014. Sixth formers enjoy their own café, open from 8.00am every morning and manned by our very own team of student Baristas, as well as study areas, a resource room, a computer suite, and classrooms furnished throughout with private study booths. All students have a locker to store their files in, and the newly refurbished toilets are for the exclusive use of Sixth Form students.
