Business Studies - BTEC Level 3 at Merrill Academy

Course description

In completing this course, you are developing the vital practical and applicable skills needed by today’s employers. You will have the opportunity to explore the dynamics of business structure, operations, finance and marketing. You will examine the skills required to be a successful entrepreneur and learn how a business can be started up. You will also examine the marketing of a project and how to extend the life cycle of that product.

Entry requirements

To Study A's Levels or Applied Learning courses at level 3 you must have gained a grade C or above in English and Maths and have a minimum of three other GCSE's at grade C or above

To study A's Levels in Maths or Sciences there is a minimum requirement of a B grade at GCSE in Maths and a double 'B-B' grade in Science, for Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Subject Specific

5 A* - C’s including English and Maths.

Level 2 Business Attributes – hardworking, an interest in the subject, able to read around the subject, meet deadlines.


This is a vocational course consisting of 6 coursework projects that will be completed over the 2 years. The coursework is marked internally and moderated by an external moderator. Lessons ensure that you learn the theory required and that they can apply it to your project work. Group work, individual learning, case studies, video clips and discussion all ensure a broad understanding and application to enable you to work to your target grades.

Future opportunities

This qualification leads to a range of careers in office, administrative or consumer service related settings.

Further study at degree level can lead to careers in Marketing, Finance and Accounting, Advertising, Human Resources, Law, Business Management or Teaching.
