Art and Design: UALab Level 3 Diploma (equivalent to BTEC Extended Diploma) at Leyton Sixth Form College

Course description

This course prepares you for higher education in Art and Design or employment in a related industry. A UAL Extended Diploma course can be combined with an A level. It is equivalent to three A levels.

Course content

You will study units that include drawing and painting, printmaking, graphics, fashion and textiles, photography, moving image and 3D design. You will also research and analyse a range of art and design practice, including making trips to museums and galleries.

You will complete 8 units covering the range of skills above and be assessed on your project work. Your last unit is the Final Major Project and it is the grade you get for this that is the grade for the qualification.

You will also complete a work related project, but this will not be assessed as part of the qualification.

C – Art & Design,

C/5 English (preferred)

Assessment

Exam board: University of the Arts London Awarding Body.

Future opportunities

You can progress onto Foundation Studies or directly onto a specialist degree course. There are a range of careers available, including advertising, fashion/textile design, film and TV (post-production), interior design, fine art (such as painting, sculpture, print making), illustration, product design, photography and digital imaging, marketing/PR and multimedia/web design.

There are visits to galleries, museums, degree shows, workshops and opportunities to meet artists and designers. There is an opportunity to go on a subsidised field trip abroad.
