Sociology A Level at Derby College

Course description

A-level Sociology provides learners with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the world.  They are encouraged to reflect on social issues and their own experiences to encompass diverse thinking. Learners will acquire critical, analytical skills and will address contemporary issues throughout their studies.

  • Sociology of the family
  • Researching methods with social inequalities
  • Globalisation and the digital world
  • Crime and deviance

Entry requirements

You need five GCSEs including English Language and Maths, with a grade C in Maths and at least a grade B in English Language.


Assessment is 100% by examination.

Future opportunities

Sociology is accepted for admission to a wide range of university degree courses in the social sciences.  It is also accepted for training courses in health and social care, personnel management, leisure and tourism, the police, legal professions and similar career areas.
