Course description

The opportunities in hairdressing are endless for individuals with artistic flair and technical expertise. The secret behind a good hairdresser is good quality training, learning your skills in the workplace alongside experienced and qualified staff and gaining qualifications that are recognised by the industry.

A Hairdressing Apprenticeship offers a great opportunity to gain invaluable experience in the workplace, alongside study towards nationally recognised qualifications. This Apprenticeship is aimed at people with an interest in creative design, styling and lots of customer service. Opportunities are available in a range of salons across the area, including high fashion central locations.

 

Course content

Whilst this is a highly practical course, where you will develop your hairdressing skills to advanced levels, you will also study the science behind hairdressing, acquring the knowledge and understanding to be a competent hairdresser.

Throughout your Apprenticeship, you will be required to perform a range of tasks, including:

  • Promoting additional services or products to customers
  • Providing hairdressing consultation services
  • Creating a variety of looks using a combination of cutting techniques
  • Colouring hair using a variety of techniques
  • Providing colour correction services
  • Monitoring procedures to safety control operations
  • Creatively styling and dressing hair
  • Creatively dressing long hair
  • Advanced cutting and styling

CWT Chamber Training will provide you with high quality information, advice and guidance to help you make the right choice of Apprenticeship. Our team have up to date information and an excellent knowledge of the hairdressing industry.  We have access to a range of great jobs with employers who are committed to investing the time to develop your skills.  

You will have a personally designed training plan, developed around your needs and building on your qualifications. You will spend the majority of your time working with your employer in the salon, dealing with clients and applying your hairdressing skills. In addition to this, you will spend time at CWT Chamber Training's Hairdressing Academy gaining skills, knowledge and understanding of advanced hairdressing.

 

Entry requirements

This Apprenticeship is aimed at people with an active interest in creative design, styling and good customer service. You will need to be confident, have good people skills and be prepared for hard work. As an Advanced Apprentice you will be progressing in your job role, developing the skills of a qualified and experience stylist with your own client list.

Typically, Advanced Apprentices in Hairdressing will have progressed from level 2 to level 3 as their skills and experience develops. Alternatively, you will hold significant practical experience in hairdressing and be seeking to gain formal recognition of this through a City & Guids qualification.

Assessment

City & Guilds in Hairdressing is achieved through  demonstrating your practical and theoretical skills. You will be appointed a dedicated Training Advisor who will visit you regularly in your salon ,observing your hairdressing skills and ensuring that you understand the theory behind your work.

In addition to this, you will attend CWT Chamber Training for off the job training which allows you to extend your skills and knowledge further. Typically this is one day per week, although we will design your learning plan and your attendance around your needs.

Upon successful completion of your Advanced Hairdressing Apprenticeship, you will achieve:

  • City & Guilds Hairdressing Diploma Level 3
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths Level 2

Financial information

You will be a paid an Apprenticeship salary by your employer, this will be agreed when you are offered a job. For those who are aged 16 - 18, Apprenticeship training is fully funded by the Government and all of the agreed costs of your learning will be met. If you are older, partial funding is available to support you. Advice regarding this will be given at the point of enquiry.

Future opportunities

A career in hairdressing can be rewarding and lucrative - for those with ambition and flair, the opportunities are endless. From Level 3, you will be able to progress to with your skills in the workplace, becoming a senior stylist, salon manager or even own your own business. Further study is also possible through the following:

  • NVQ 4 - Salon Manager / Supervisor
  • Foundation Degree - Salon Manager / Business manager
  • Business Management Degree - Business Owner / General Manager

      CWT Chamber Training has a range of up to date, modern training facilities, where technology is widely used to ensure our courses are fun, informative and highly valued by employers.

      All rooms are resourced with up-to-date equipment i.e. smart boards, internet access and comprehensive information, advice and guidance materials are available with qualified staff on hand to support your decision making.

      In the main we will visit you at your employer’s premises and our qualified experienced Training Advisors will work with you on a one-to-one basis.
