Child Care Level 3 Apprenticeship at Alder Training

Course description

The Childcare Advanced Apprenticeship is a training and education programme for employed staff which combines vocational experience with a Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner (Early Years Educator).

Learners may have some supervisory responsibilities or they may be involved in specialist tasks with some degree of responsibility or independence. Learners should be familiar and working with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and be a key worker responsible for observing and assessing the individual needs of their key children.

Learners need to complete 17 mandatory units (64 Credits), 4 of which are knowledge based, externally set assignments by City and Guilds and 13 are mixed knowledge and competence based units of which all criteria and ranges are to be met.

This qualification is a work based award and learners' skills and knowledge are assessed in the workplace whilst they are working directly with children, young people, their families and colleagues. An assessor will help them plan and gather a portfolio of evidence of their daily routines. They must be working in a real nursery/school or child minder setting on a full or part time basis and in paid work and it is really important for the learners to have a good support network within their role.

Learners will also complete the Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care and Children and Young People’s Settings. This is a knowledge based one unit qualification that will be assessed by assignment. Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills will also be referenced form the units completed as this is naturally occurring evidence.

Learners will also be required to achieve their GCSE maths and English at grade A-C (if this has already not been achieved in the last 5 years) and their functional skills ICT at level 2 which consists of an online assessment.
