BTec Level 2 Diploma Sport (1 year) at Warlingham School
First Sport This course provides a wide education that will provide the student with a background to the sports industry, sport, coaching and fitness. This will allow the students to seek employment in the sports industry or progress to BTEC level 3 or Applied GCE Leisure and Recreation BTEC First Diploma in Sport Comprises of 6 Units. Planning and Leading Sports Activities This unit provides learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to plan and lead a range of practical sports activities. The unit also looks at the qualities necessary for effective sports leadership. Learners will identify the qualities required by studying real examples of successful leaders, possibly those they have worked with or observed in the community. Health, safety and industry Investigating the main causes and prevention of sports injury. How they are treated and risk assessment. Preparation for Sport Explores and examines fitness levels, and lifestyle, the nutritional requirements for sport, fitness and training programmes and the psychological factors that affect the sports performer. The Body in Sport A study into the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Investigates the long and short term effects of exercise on these body systems. Lifestyle and Sports Performance The first part of the unit looks at time management. It involves learners planning and prioritising work commitments such as training, competition and other types of employment and education. The second part of this unit looks at career management, communicating effectively and working with others. Financial management, first and second careers choices are explored. Assessment The units require the production of a portfolio of work that will be internally assessed. Some work will be sent off for external assessment.
