Dog Grooming City & Guilds at Sandwell College

Course description

This one-year course is aimed at young people who would like a career in dog grooming.

Course content

The course contains different units, including:
Controlling and Restraining Animals
Preparing and Grooming Dogs Prior to Bathing
Bathing and Cleaning Dogs
Drying Dogs and Preparing Coats for Styling.

Students must have a placement with a dog-care business. The course involves one theory day in college per week and 1-2 days in placement, depending on whether students are resitting GCSEs.

Entry requirements

You will need English and Maths GCSEs at Grade D or above, or be prepared to re-sit them. You will also undertake a formal interview and complete a medical form. You will need to obtain a dog grooming placement to get a place on course.


Students are assessed by an on-line exam, written assessments, assignments and practical observations .



Future opportunities

Students can go on to Animal Care Level 3 or employment in dog grooming.
