Physical Education A Level at Bitterne Park School

Course description

AS-level PE: 60% theory, 40% practical

At AS, students will have the opportunity to study applied exercise physiology, skill acquisition and explore the benefits of physical activity to society and individual participants. These theoretical areas are examined in a two hour exam, with a range of short and long answer questions. Each student will also be assessed in two performances/roles within their best sports.

A-Level PE: 60% theory, 40% practical

At A-Level, students will gain a greater understanding of how exercise physiology and psychology can optimise physical performance whilst also exploring contemporary and historical influences on sport and society today. For the practical element of the course, students are able to pick from a very broad range of physical activities and sports.

Why this course

This course enables students who are interested and excited about sport to continue their passion in performance and develop their understanding of the physical, mental and social mechanisms which underpin and improve physical performance. This course suits both individual and team based performers.

5 GCSE A* - C passes including English, Maths and PE.
