History A2 Level (EDEXCEL) at Ryburn Valley High School

Course description

The main aim is to encourage your appreciation and enjoyment of History. The department aims to provide a real breadth and depth of study. The course includes a Sixteenth Century study of Tudor England and a study of 19th and 20th Century Germany and Russia for our European modules.History in the Sixth Form does not only extend your knowledge of History but provides you with a number of transferable skills. You will develop your powers of analysis and ability to present coherent arguments, both verbal and written. The course provides excellent preparation for careers such as journalism, the legal profession and management.In Year 13 you will study Russia and Germany from 1825 - 1939. The English unit of study will study reformation and reaction in the age of Elizabeth from 1525 - 1566. In Year 13 you will also write an individual study of your own choice. This provides you with the opportunity to investigate a historical issue of your choice.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in History or related subjects such as English, American Studies, Politics , Archaeology or more general courses.With further training, you could go into a job related to history by seeking employment in areas of heritage such as working for a museum or within education such as a teacher. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
