Games Design BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Oaklands College
This course aims to give you a background in games design from technical programming through to the designing of characters and game play. The course will allow you to experience what it is like to work on live briefs and to produce a whole concept from initial research, design and programming to your finished ideas.
You will study a combination of units that look at the concept of gaming and how programming and design anre integral parts. The core units allow you to research and originate ideas for your own projects whilst other units allow you to learn about app programming, website design, 2D animation, 3D animation, games testing, games engines, digital gaming and concepts of game art.
You will need 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above or a relevant Level 2 qualification. You will be required to attend an interview and to bring some examples of your work with you.
This course has been designed for students interested in pursuing a career in programming and designing for games applications.
You will be assessed through written and practical assignments that will provide the learning necessary to enableyou to achieve the assessment criteria.
16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.
The skills you learn will enable you to pursue a career in games programming and development, games animation, games production, games level design or web development. You could also progress into Higher Education in a related subject.
As part of the study programme requirements students will also attend English and/or Maths GCSE/Functional skills lessons alongside the normal programme of study (this applies to all students who have a grade D or below on entry.) Students will also complete 30 hours work experience (per year), weekly tutorials and study periods.
