Art and Design - Fine Art GCSE at Firth Park Academy

Course content

In GCSE Art you will be required to work in one or more areas of fine art such as those listed below. Students may explore combinations of areas -

Drawing and painting

Sculpture

Printmaking

Mixed media

Computer Art

You will be expected to produce a substantial portfolio of art work and in Y11 will exhibit your coursework and examination work.

We will expect students to attend trips out to galleries/exhibitions and artists workshops. Above all, you need to be interested, motivated and hard working.

Assessment

In Y10 and Y11 you need to complete the following:

2, 3 or 4 units of coursework, which includes preparatory work and sketchbooks related to the final piece in the chosen area of study. Homework will be set as part of coursework.

60% of marks

Controlled test (exam). Four weeks preparatory work followed by ten hours of supervised time to produce a final piece. You will be expected to develop your own work from a starting point from the examination board. You will be assessed on your final piece and your preparatory work i.e. Research, sketchbook studies, experimentation with ideas and materials, test pieces etc

40% of marks
