Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair - Light Vehicle - Level 3 Diploma at Wales High School and Business and Enterprise College with Applied Learning
This course is offered as a two year qualification. This Level 3 VRQ qualification is designed to provide a standardised approach for the delivery and assessment of the knowledge and skills requirements. This qualification also provides the knowledge requirements for its related VCQ and forms the knowledge component of the IMI SSC Maintenance and Repair Advanced Apprenticeship framework (for Light Vehicle).
This qualification also forms the knowledge component (technical certificate) of the Institute of the Motor
Industry (IMI) Maintenance and Repair Advanced Apprenticeship framework (for the Light Vehicle).
Where can this lead?
The qualification could provide students with an opportunity to enter employment by obtaining an apprenticeship in the Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Industry.
Course Breakdown - Lower Sixth
Two days per week at Wales Vocational Academy. At least one day per week work experience working in a garage developing the skills learned in school. Approximately one day of Functional Skills per week working on tasks associated with being a Mechanic.
Course Breakdown - Upper Sixth
One day per week at Wales Vocational Academy and one day at GTA using specialist diagnostic equipment. At least one day per week work experience working in a garage developing the skills learned in school. One day Functional Skills (if required).
Lessons will be held in our fully equipped workshop and will be taught by ‘industry standard’ qualified tutors and this helps students to focus on the strong emphasis of health and safety. We will aim, through our student guidance and support, to ensure that students are fully prepared for their next step into further education or employment.
GCSE Grades at Level 4 or above.
The course is equally weighted between theory and practical assignments. The assessment of this VRQ is made up of 3 components:
· Practical Tasks
· Online Testing (8 exams set by the IMI awarding body)
· Written Assignment (coursework)
Learners will need to be working in a vehicle repair environment as well as attending the training centre.
