Sport BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Basingstoke College of Technology

Course description

To be successful in this industry, it is important to have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to communicate with a range of other people and to demonstrate effective team working skills. These qualities will all be enhanced through the range of sports coaching opportunities provided for students. This may be as part of planning and running a sports event or through work experience. The structure and function of the body during exercise will also be studied in depth. Students will receive instruction, guidance and encouragement to practise and develop the skills necessary to achieve the award.

The course covers a wide range of subjects including:

  • The Sports Industry
  • Health, Safety and Injury
  • Preparation for Sport
  • The Body in Sport
  • Sport Leadership Skills
  • Practical Sport Outdoor and Adventurous Activities.

 

Students may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including English and Maths or Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure.

Assessment

The course is continuously assessed by assignments, projects and case studies. Students will develop a responsible and co-operative approach to working on their own and in groups. The course uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local businesses wherever possible.

Financial information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free. 
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.

Future opportunities

This course is a recognised route into an Extended Diploma course; students should aim for a merit or distinction grade to ensure progression.
