Photography A Level at Saffron Walden County High School

Course description

Photography is an artistic and technical subject that will develop your creativity
and practical skills. It will help you to develop your imaginative skills, practical
ability and technical knowledge. The course will also challenge your intellectual
and analytical ability. The course runs for two years with four components of work
in total. Students will produce a collection/ portfolio of coursework material which
exemplifies work carried out during both the AS and A-Level courses, and sit a
controlled test for each respectively.

Course content

Year 13
During the A-Level course you will undertake a ‘Personal Investigation’ that allows you to
explore in depth a theme, concept or idea of your choice, including a 1,000 – 3,000 word
written assignment.
Component 3: 60% of total A-Level – Personal Investigation (September – February)
Component 4: 40% of total A-Level – A-Level externally set assignment plus, from February onwards, a fifteen hour examination.
