Course description

The Certificate is a two-year, full-time course. Students will attend Ryburn Valley Sixth Form Centre for 3 days per week and will spend the 2 remaining days undertaking practical training in a variety of early years settings.In order to gain the Certificate you will have to complete:• Eleven national assignments• One research task.• 1 short answer paper on a seen case study.• Satisfactory ‘Practice Evidence Records & placement diary’To acquire extensive knowledge of all areas of babies and children's growth and development and legislations in place in Early years. To learn how to care for and educate children and how to work with parents, carers and other professionals in this field. Practical placements are an integral part of the course.

Future opportunities

This short course offers a specialist qualification for entering employment in childcare or for progressing onto further education such as BTEC Higher Nationals in Children's Care, Learning and Development or related degree programmes. You could also go on to study a relevant NVQ vocational qualification such as Playwork, which could be work-based.With further training, you could go into a job related to children's care such as a Nursery Nurse, Teacher or Care Worker. The course provides a work related programme of study so you could go straight into a job as it helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers are looking for.
