Course description

What is Travel and Tourism?

BTEC National Award Travel and Tourism is made up of six units over two years for one A level, on completion of year 12 students are expected to achieve an AS equivalent and end of year 13 the full award. The course involves the study of the travel and tourism industry, how it developed, the structure, issues that affect, organisations and employment.

Visits to employers, trade shows and destinations form an integral part of the course; as first hand experience is important for coursework, e.g. residential visit. It involves using a range of skills, report writing, investiga-tion, presentation, communication and ICT etc.

The course is Equivalent to 1 A Level Grade A* - E (6 Units) 2 A Levels Grade A* - E (12 Units) Each unit is coursework which are internally as-sessed and externally verified. Six units have to be completed over two years and passed to achieve the single qualification. There are no examinations.

Entry requirements

GCSEs at Grade A* - D. Level 2 qualifications, for instance GNVQ Intermediate or Level 2 BTEC. You may have studied or have an interest in Geography, Leisure and Tourism or Business Studies, Events Management and Languages.
