Classical Civilisation A Level at Exmouth Community College

Course description

This is an exciting, varied course which gives candidates the opportunity to study the history of our own civilisation. From its origins in ancient Greece to the Fall of the Roman Empire, the classical world has influenced western government, politics, democracy, philosophy, art, literature, music and theatre for over 4,000 years!

Travel back to the times of Sophocles, Homer and Virgil and learn about the lives of women in the ancient world, the formation of modern democracy and autocracy and learn the classical mythology of the gods.

Classical Civilisation is a respected A-Level which prepares students for careers in politics, languages, medicine, veterinary sciences, history, journalism, museum curatorship, archaeology and architecture. It is recognised by all of the world’s top universities and employers. Embark upon this journey to Greece, Egypt and Rome and study some of the most exciting and controversial historical times in world history.

Former students have gone on to study at Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities; joined the Armed Forces; set-up businesses and travelled the world!

Entry requirements

5 x 4 [C] grades including English Literature and Language.

Please note: candidates do not have to have previously studied Latin or Classical Greek.
