Music A Level at Claremont High School Academy

Course description

Our A-Level Music course is intended to be a stimulating and enriching experience for our students. It aims to provide an excellent basis for lifelong learning and for higher education courses. At both AS and A2 Levels, students experience all three main musical disciplines of performing, composing and listening and understanding.

During the course students will develop their performance skills (solo and/or ensemble), compose music and learn about harmony, the basics at AS and also stylistic studies at A2. They will build up their aural and analytical skills by studying the given set works from the ‘New Anthology of Music’ and wider listening.

This course is excellent preparation for higher education courses in Music and is equally valuable for non-specialists as a second or third area of study. The AS units alone can offer a broad and satisfying experience for those who want to conclude their musical studies at this point.

Career Destinations: Composer, performer, music therapist, teacher, broadcaster and publisher.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 or equivalent standard and B in GCSE Music.
