Construction and Painting and Decorating RSW Diploma Level 1 at Boston College
This course combines a basic introduction to construction with work experience. You will study many areas of Construction including: building maintenance skills, home improvements skills, painting and decorating skills, starting work in construction, working
as a part of a group, career progression, plan and participate in an event, welcoming visitors, and health and safety and welfare in construction.
This course will help you to understand aspects of the construction industry and the skills required to work successfully.
You will study parts of your course in the College's on-site Construction workshop.
You will study the Level 1 BTEC Diploma in Vocational studies and may get an opportunity to visit local and regional businesses to observe and gain experience in the construction industry.
This course will introduce you to the basic hand tools, materials, components, fixings and personal protective equipment used in construction, and offers opportunities to develop the skills including painting and decorating, needed to make home improvements and building maintenance.
You will be encouraged to develop your employability skills including time management, communication skills, research skills and teamwork. As a part of the course you will gain a valuable work experience which will be arranged by the College.
There are no formal entry qualifications for this course.
This course is a combination of both practical and theory.
You will learn and be assessed by completing either practical or scenario based activities and by writing assignments.
These assignment activities will develop your practical skills from a variety of construction areas.
You may require a DBS, tools and a protective uniform.
The course will give you the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at D-G grade.
This would give you the opportunity to progress to other courses within the college at level 1 or 2, an apprenticeship or employment.
