History AS/A Level at Brockhill Park Performing Arts College

Course description

A Level History requires students to study three units over two years; these are categorised into a breadth study, a depth study and a Historical Investigation. These enable the students to experience an interesting range of historical periods and their controversies in detail.

The overriding theme for the examined course is the creation, destruction and survival of the state. This is explored through two different periods of time: Revolutionary France and The Tudors, 1485-1603.

The third unit is a Historical Investigation; a non-examined essay based coursework unit where students have the opportunity to pick the titles of the essays based on the topic of ‘Women’. Students are able to select their own l 00 year time frame to analyse the role of women within society and key events that may have affected their lives.

Our students not only gain a prestigious A Level qualification on completion of the course, they also acquire sophisticated analytical, verbal and written skills which will help them to succeed at university and beyond.
