Performing Arts Level 3 Diploma at Carlisle College
This course develops skills in acting, dancing and singing. Learners will take a variety of options in order to complete their chosen qualification. Many of the units are project led. This gives the learners the opportunity of developing skills and techniques in relation to a performance or showing.
The course focuses on performance studies and the entertainment industry in general and a range of specialist areas of study in drama, movement and singing. Most assignments are a mixture of practical and written work, supported by tutorials, lectures, workshops, web-based research, visits and discussions. You will prepare for performance showcases and productions demonstrating the skills you have acquired. You will build portfolios of work that provide evidence of your understanding for assessment.

Five GCSEs at grade A*-C to include English Language and Maths. Accepted is also a Level 2 vocational qualification at Merit or Distinction and Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English or the Scottish equivalent.
You will be expected to attend and complete a successful interview and audition.
At interview you should be able to demonstrate the capacity to maintain effort on this intensive full-time programme of study and demonstrate an ability to be able to complete both practical and academic elements of the course.
We look for lively, interesting people who are enthusiastic about learning and want to develop practical skills in performing arts. You should enjoy working with others and be prepared to work hard as the course does contain theoretical study into the industry and contextual history extensively.
Enthusiasm and energy are important! Good skills in Drama/Acting and a positive attitude towards Dance and Singing are essential. Bring evidence of your achievements to date to your interview.
Most assignments are a mixture of practical and written work. You will prepare performance showcases and productions demonstrating the skills you have acquired, and these performances will be assessed. We also assess our students through classroom observation and the recording of sessions, as well as presentations, viva's, essay and portfolio based work.
The course is continuously assessed and as you go you will gain credits for individual units on the qualification which will total up at the end of year to provide you with your overall grade.
After completing the 90 Credit Diploma (Equivalent to 3 AS levels) learners may wish to interview for the Extended Diploma (Equivalent to 3 A-Levels). Learners with prior achievement at A-Level may wish to progress to Higher education and all UCAS applications will be supported during your study.
Learners entering the 90 Credit Diploma with prior AS or A-Levels may wish to progress instantly to Higher Education after the yearlong course, providing they have enough UCAS points in order to do so.
After completing the Extended Diploma, learners may wish to progress onto Higher Education or go to work within the Performing Arts industry. Previous learners have become successful actors on stage and TV, teachers, cabaret performers, holiday park entertainers and holiday reps working abroad.
