Computer Science and Developing Digital Solutions - Certified by Amaze Extended Diploma Level 3 at The Manchester College

Course description

This unique course has been developed in partnership with Amaze, a full service international digital agency with a focus on web development. It’s a computer science programme that’s certified by Amaze themselves and is only available at The Manchester College.You’ll cover a wide variety of development related topics, diving straight into work with CSS and HTML, and exploring the functionalities of C# ASP .NET MVC applications. Handling data with MongoDB and SQL will form a part of the course, as will a focus on JavaScript (including Node.js, Angular.js and Express.js.Along with learning the technologies and abilities you’ll need to be successful at university, the heart of this course is focused on employment skills, touching upon all those which are relevant to the current demands of the digital industry. You’ll be able to go straight into a technical job right after college if you wish, and could even find yourself at the Amaze Academy!

Entry requirements

You’ll need to have 5 GCSEs including English at grade 5-9 (grade A*- C), along with a grade 6 or above (grade B) in Maths or Computer Science. A large part of this course will be project based, as you’ll be completing a range of different assignments, including coursework set by us and frequent live briefs provided by Amaze! You’ll also take part in guest lectures and workshops with team members from Amaze, as well as completing externally marked coursework and exams.

Future opportunities

This Level 3 course will give you the qualifications you need to apply to university and study a computer-related degree of your choosing. We also have a number of software and development foundation degree courses at The Manchester College to advance onto as well. If university isn’t for you, this course is specifically designed to give you the skills you’ll need to succeed in the working world. You might find yourself actively recruited for the Amaze Academy, or you could secure a job in web development, software development or digital consultancy in a number of different businesses. The digital sector is constantly growing, and there are a number of career paths to choose from!

      Openshaw is a suburb of east Manchester, a short bus ride from Manchester’s city centre. Openshaw Campus is built at the heart of the community with an open plan design and attractive green space and water features. Sportcity and the City of Manchester Stadium are close to the campus. Sportcity has a number of sports venues and fitness and sports facilities for the public. There is a 14-screen cinema five minutes away by car or 25 minutes on foot.
