Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3 Diploma at East Surrey College

Course description

This Level 3 qualification covers the technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry including the diagnosis of complex system faults. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots. It is a learning programme which involves students studying both theory and practical aspects.

Course content

 Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Vehicle Auxiliary Electrical Faults
 Skills in Diagnosing and Rectifying Vehicle Auxiliary Electrical Faults
 Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Engine Faults
 Knowledge of Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Chassis System Faults
 Skills in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle System Faults
 Online Computer Examinations
Students will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage

Entry requirements

Learners must have a Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Light Vehicle) Level 2 Award or equivalent.

If you are under 19 on 31/08/2016, tuition is free. If you are 19 or over please consult Client Services for advice and guidance on funding and eligibility.
 
Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.

Future opportunities

Employment as an apprentice within the motor trade or progression onto either the Vehicle Technology (Motor Sport) BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma or the Vehicle Technology (Motor Sport) BTEC Extended Diploma depending on achievement.

Equipment needed:
 
Pens; pencils; calculator; lever arch folder; and recommended text books.  For all workshop activities you will need to have your own steel toe capped boots and 1 piece overalls.
