English Literature at The Hollyfield School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

AS Course

Two units: one examination unit and one coursework unit. We study six texts; novel, play and poetry on one of three prescribed areas of study: Victorian Literature, World War One Literature and The Struggle for Identity in Modern Literature. The area of study will be chosen by the class teachers, in consultation with the Head of Department.

A2 Course

Two units: one examination unit and one coursework unit. We study six texts linked to the theme of Love Through The Ages. It will study all aspects of love and consider texts from Chaucer to the present day.

Entry requirements

English: B. English Literature: B

Assessment

At AS there is one two hour examination and two coursework assignments to complete.

 

At A2 there is one two and a half hour examination and one longer coursework assignment to complete.

Financial information

It is necessary to complete further reading.  These books can be purchased cheaply online or borrowed from our LRC or the local library.
