Art and Design Fine Art at Harris Academy Upper Norwood
Year 12 ContentThe first half of the Advanced GCE course may be completed as an AS Level and credited. Students may continue into year two and take the full Advanced GCE qualification. Year one is made up of two units.Unit 1: Art and Design CourseworkIn this unit, students will have opportunities to generate practical work, ideas and research from primary and contextual sources. They will experiment with media and processes, develop and refine their ideas, and presenting their outcomes. At the beginning of the unit there is a short induction course to familiarise students with a range of working processes and good practice. Unit 2: Externally Set AssignmentThe paper consists of one broad-based thematic starting point. Students will develop preparation over a period of time and sit an 8 hour examination under controlled conditions. Year 13 ContentThe full Advanced GCE has four units. Two from year one; two from year two.Unit 3: Art and Design CourseworkThis unit incorporates two linked elements, each with separate final outcomes: Practical Work and Personal Study. Practical Work provides the opportunity for students to pursue their own creative ideas. The Personal Study element should consist of 1000-3000 words linked to the practical work and requires students to produce an illustrated dissertation on a selected aspect of others art.Unit 4: Externally Set AssignmentThe paper consists of one broad-based thematic starting point. Students will develop preparation over a period of time and sit a 12 hour examination under controlled conditions.
Subject specific entry requirements may apply but as a minimum you should provide 7 GCSEs grades A* - C. Please see our website for full admissions criteria. Students require a grade B or above in Art and Design GCSE, and at least a C grade in English GCSE
