The course for you if ...

You have achieved your Level 2 in Hairdressing and would like to build upon your hairdressing skills.

Course content

You will further your knowledge in current styling, cutting and colouring techniques. These skills will enable you to create a portfolio of advanced styles, provide a consultation service, financial effectiveness and plan promotional activities.

This qualification is also available for those who wish to up-skill from previous qualifications.

Entry requirements

Level 3 Certificate:
Achieved Level 2 Hairdressing, or equivalent.

Level 3 Diploma:
Achieved Level 2 Hairdressing, or equivalent. Must have Maths and English GCSE at Grade C or above.

For both the Certificate and Diploma, an interview with a course tutor and a satisfactory reference are required. This Level 3 Hairdressing qualification expects learners to be able to produce advanced and creative work, demonstrating an artistic and creative flair. Excellent communication skills and an enthusiastic approach to clients are vital.


Assessment is based on practical competency, graded assessments and external online tests.

Financial information

Students are required to purchase a salon uniform and kit for all Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy courses
(approx. cost of kit and uniform = £120, based on 13-14 costs). Financial support may be available to help with the cost of course-specific equipment, ask the Gateway team for more details.

Future opportunities

After completing the Level 3 course, you will be a fully qualified stylist. You may choose to run your own
business or work as a Senior Stylist in a salon environment.
