Making Choices Health and Social Care / Childcare Level 2 at Middlesbrough College

Course description

Students will be given a unique opportunity to gain 2 introductory certificates in Childcare and Health and Social Care. It is aimed at those who are hoping to work in either setting. You will study for 2 certificates and will also have the opportunity to study for maths and English qualifications.

Course content

Level 2 Certificate In Caring for Children and Young People The value of play to young children Craft activities with young children Accident prevention and fire safety when babysitting Caring for young children in a babysitting environment Rights and responsibilities in relation to parenting Parenting and healthy lifestyles Parenting a young baby Respecting and valuing children Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to work in Adult Social Care Principles of communication in adult social care settings Principles of personal development in adult social care settings Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings Understand the role of the social care worker Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings Understand health and safety in social care settings Understand how to handle information in social care settings

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are at least an E in GCSE English and maths, or to be working at Functional Skills Entry Level 2 or above. You will undertake and require a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure Application "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."


Portfolio of work. There are no exams attached to this qualification, apart from Maths and English.

Future opportunities

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Successful students can progress onto Level 2 Childcare or Health and Social Care.
