Photography A Level at Corelli College Co-Operative Academy
You will explore a variety of skills base activities for the first part of the course, learning how to use a range of cameras, lenses and practical approaches.
Year 1: You will explore a variety of foci and artists relevant to the theme; you will look at how the your theme can be explored with relevance to Photography. You will make choices based on your preferences and skills set. The course gives you the opportunity to explore a wide range of ideas, materials and knowledge.
Year 2: You will use and increase your knowledge of the formal art elements and your creative skills to produce work using a range of techniques, exploring your individual ideas and observations about given themes and briefs, looking at your own and others’ ways of seeing the world. You will increase and improve your use and understanding of light, composition, darkroom techniques, pinhole photography, Photoshop, editing and collage.
Preferably a Grade C or above in GCSE Art and Design/ Photography or Fine Art; or a Merit or above BTEC Art and Design
You will be formatively assessed on a regular basis and expected to act on the feedback given. In Year 1 you will have a range of internal deadlines that you will be set by your teachers. In year 2 you will have a coursework deadline in January and again in May, and you will be formally assessed and graded against the exam board criteria at these times. The coursework component is worth 60% of the overall grade. The examination component is worth 40% of the overall grade.
There are a huge range of creative opportunities out there for students once their A’ levels are complete. Our successful A’ level students often go on to complete Foundation in Art and Design, or straight onto a degree, a HND or foundation degree in an arts subject.
