Philosophy and Ethics at Trinity Academy

Course description

Below you will find some information regarding the A-Level Philosophy and Ethics course. Please note that there are some entry requirements for this course.

Course content

This A-Level is designed to help you explore a wide range of concepts and will challenge you to criticise, analyse and study sources objectively. Through a wide range of study you will be able to process facts and present arguments logically, whether in the written or oral form.
 
Units you will cover include:
 Philosophy (Unit 1a): a study of philosophical arguments about the existence of God, including key ideas
 Ethics (Unit 1b): a study of ethical concepts, including the relationship between religion and morality
 Philosophy (Unit 3a): again explores arguments about God, including beliefs about life after death
 Ethics (Unit 3b): looks at concepts including justice, law and punishment
 Implications: exploring the views of a range of philosophers and the relevance of these viewpoints.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of five A* - C grades, including Maths and English to access this course. A strong English grade would be an advantage.

Assessment

This course is entirely examination based, with two 1 hour 45 minute examinations at both AS and A2.

Further information

You will develop a range of key skills as part of studying this A-Level and build confidence in areas including public speaking, communication, research, analysis and evaluation. The course does involve extended essay writing.
