French A Level at Verulam School

Course description

“…language study on your record will catch the eye of anyone reading your college application.  No matter what your career choice, knowledge of a foreign language gives you an advantage” (

Studying modern languages will give you excellent and varied career opportunities and life-long skills. Language skills are in short supply and can be used in almost any job. Studying a language clearly makes you an effective communicator, both orally and in writing.

With an A-Level in French you can do a degree in Modern Languages or a mixed degree involving French e.g. Law and French, Biology and French or a French language module as part of an Engineering degree.

Language skills can be useful in any type of work from retail buyer to solicitor. It is increasingly likely that you will find yourself working and studying in an international context whatever your career aspirations.

You will develop your knowledge of a range of subjects including Media (TV, advertising, ICT), Popular Culture (sport, cinema, music, fashion), Health (drugs & alcohol, healthy living). Teachers make use of a wide range of authentic material including the internet, newspapers and magazines and opportunities for study visits, and work experience are available if desired.
