BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care at Selby College

Course description

This broad-based course allows you to develop the knowledge and skills needed for practical work in health care or early years. It is particularly suitable if you are interested in working in the Health Service, but are perhaps undecided as to what specific area.

Course content

You will study a number of areas, including:

• Lifespan and Development

• Diet and Nutrition

• Communication

Please note: If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course. You will also be expected to attend work placement for which you must be prepared to travel.

Entry requirements

Standard Level 2 entry requirements apply. For this course you must also have a GCSE Grade 3 or above in Science.

Assessment

80% Coursework, 20% Exam.

An enhanced DBS check will be carried out on your suitability to work with children which you will be required to pay for, currently £44.00.*

Future opportunities

On successful completion, you may choose to continue your studies on the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care or the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Technical Diploma in Childcare and Education (EYE). You will need Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths for Level 3 Childcare. In order to progress, you must have good attendance and achieve the necessary entry requirements for the higher level course.
