BUSINESS BTEC NATIONAL (Subsidiary Diploma) at Queensmead School

Course description

BTEC National in Business has been designed to develop knowledge and understanding of the business sector. This course will focus on providing opportunities for learners to acquire technical and employability skills which develop knowledge and understanding of what is required in a place of work.

Predominately, a BTEC course is intended to provide a specialist programme of study with a vocational emphasis.

Course content

This is a two year course that is equivalent to one A Level. Students are required to complete 60 credits (6 assignments) over the course of the two years.

1 The Business Environment 
2 Business Resources 
3 Introduction to Marketing 
4 Business communication 
5 Managing a Business Event 
6 Website Design Strategy 

Entry requirements

 Five GCSEs (including English or Maths) grades A*-C, preferably having studied GCSE Business or BTEC Business Level 2 (Merit standard).


There is no external examination for this course; all work is examined through completed assignments. These assignments are all internally assessed. The above units are examples of subjects studied on this course. The units have practical and nonpractical elements and require students to show key skills such as analysis and evaluation.

Future opportunities

Students who take a course in Business Studies develop key skills that are applicable to all walks of life, but are especially useful for students looking to study Business related courses at University or students who are looking to begin work at 18.
