If you like science, maths and solving technical problems, this exciting course is for you. It brings engineering to life through making use of visits to talk to real designers, engineers and architects at their places of work and on real sites.
AS Qualification Structure: Unit 1: Engineering Materials, Processes and Techniques
Throughout this unit you will examine the properties of a range of common Engineering materials and their suitability for various applications.Unit 2: The Role of the Engineer
In this unit you will investigate the role of an engineer by working with them designing a solution to a real life Engineering challenge.Unit 3: Principles of Design, Planning and Prototyping
In Unit 3 you will design and make a product of your own choice. You will report back to your peers about the project in the form of a short oral presentation.A2 Qualification Structure: Unit 4: Applied Engineering Systems
In this unit you will look at ways in which Engineering techniques and principles are applied in some important systems and how a systems approach can be used to solve Engineering problems.Unit 5: The Engineering Environment
In this unit you will investigate a different company. Working with them you will make a number of site visits, interviewing and researching to discover how the company functions and what they produce.Unit 6: Applied Design, Planning and Prototyping
This unit will involve designing, developing and making a product to meet a client brief that will be decided by yourself in conjunction with your teacher.
GCSE grade B in Engineering or another Technology subject plus a B in Physics or Additional Science and Mathematics will normally be expected.
You could consider a career in aerospace, agricultural, biomedical, computer hardware, electronics, industrial, chemical and civil sectors.
